Dipus hudsonius was named by Zimmermann (1780). It is extant. It is the type species of Zapus.
It was misspelled as Zapus hudsonicus by Crile and Quiring (1940); it was recombined as Zapus hudsonius by Hay (1902), Kurten and Anderson (1980) and Seymour (2004).
