Taxonomy
Notochampsa istedana was named by Broom (1904). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Funnystone Farm, which is in a Pliensbachian terrestrial sandstone in the Clarens Formation of South Africa.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Whetstone and Whybrow (1983).
