Taxonomy
Leipsanolestes simpsoni was named by Bown (1979). It is the type species of Auroralestes.

It was recombined as Eolestes simpsoni by Bown and Schankler (1982) and Novacek et al. (1985); it was recombined as Auroralestes simpsoni by Holroyd et al. (2004).
