Anomia inconspicua was named by Clark (1918) [TYPE LOCALITY: California; San Ramon Sandstone (Miocene).]. Its type specimen is UCMP 11205 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 1131, Walnut Creek, which is in an Oligocene marine horizon in California.
