Nothosaurus mirabilis

Taxonomy
Nothosaurus mirabilis was named by Münster (1834). Its type specimen is BT uncatalogued, a partial skeleton (anterior part of the lower jaw and most of the postcranial skeleton), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Oschenberg, near Laineck, which is in a Ladinian marine horizon in Germany.

Wild 1996A species of Nothosaurus of intermediate size with an adult condylobasal skull length of up to 460 mm; rostrum long and slender with parallel lateral edges; length-to-width ratio of mandibular symphysis 1.5-1.7; five fangs on each premaxilla; four small maxillary teeth preceding the paired maxillary fangs; rostral constriction weakly expressed; external nares long and slender; upper temporal fenestra elongate, with a constricted anterior corner and with the maxillary tooth row extending to a level below its midpoint; high neural spines on dorsal vertebrae.
