Calyptroides was named by Clark and Durham (1946) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m T Eo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. Its type is Calyptroides bolivarensis.

It was assigned to Calyptraeidae by Clark and Durham (1946); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
