Taxonomy
Anthropoidea was named by Mivart (1864). It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Kay et al. (2004).

It was reranked as the unranked clade Anthropoidea by Maw et al. (1979), Harrison et al. (1991), Seiffert et al. (2005), Delson et al. (2005), Rosenberger (2006) and Fleagle (2013); it was synonymized subjectively with Simiiformes by Godinot and Mahboubi (1992).

It was assigned to Euprimates by Harrison et al. (1991); to Haplorrhini by Kay et al. (2004) and Poux and Douzery (2004); to Haplorrhini by Rosenberger (2006); to Haplorhini by Beard et al. (1994) and Kay (2010); to Haplorhini by Maw et al.
