Gazameda was named by Iredale (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u Sepkoski's reference number: 728].

It was assigned to Turritellidae by Beu et al. (1990); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Turritellinae by Wilson (1993), Allmon (1996) and Rosenberg et al. (2006).
