Paleocoordinates:40.3° North, 140.1° East
Basis of coordinate:based on nearby landmark
Geographic resolution:outcrop
Time
Period:Quaternary Epoch:Pleistocene
Stage:Chibanian 10 m.y. bin:Cenozoic 6
Key time interval:Middle Pleistocene
Age range of interval:0.77400 - 0.12900 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Formation:Wakimoto
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Fossils come from the upper part of the beds underlying the Sandy shale beds. The stratigraphy includes the "Gray shale beds" overlain by the "Alternation of sandstone and shale beds" and then the "Sandy shale beds." The "Alternation of sandstone and shale beds" likely corresponds to the Wakimoto beds as proposed by S. Toyama. Wakimoto Formation is Middle Pleistocene age (Ozawa & Kamiya, 2005).
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:coarse poorly lithified sandstone
Lithology description: Gray to brownish colored compact, coarse grained sandstone or a fine grained conglomeratic sandstone bed
