| Stratigraphy comments: The Pantano Formation, formally established by Amorosi et al. (1993), is part of the Bismantova Group together with the Cigarello Fm and lies in angular discordance on the siliceous marl of the Contignaco Fm. The age of the base varies from upper Burdigalian (Bonazzi & Fregni, 1989) to basal Langhian (Papani et al., 1989). The passage to the overlying Fm of Cigarello (Langhian pro parte-Serravallian) is included in a narrow interval of time within the Langhian, between the Praeorbulina glomerosa zone and the lower part of the Orbulina suturalis-Globorotalia peripheroronda zone (Fregni & Panini, 1995; Amorosi et al., 1996). In particular, the base of the Cigarello is dated around the Langhian-Serravallian boundary in the Reggio Emilia-Parma Apennines (Papani et al., 1989). | |||||
