Paleocoordinates:2.3° South, 114.9° East
Basis of coordinate:based on political unit
Geographic resolution:local area
Time
Period:Devonian Epoch:Middle Devonian
Stage:Eifelian 10 m.y. bin:Devonian 3
Key time interval:Eifelian
Age range of interval:393.30000 - 387.70000 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Formation:Nandan
Stratigraphic resolution:formation
Stratigraphy comments: "Abundant specimens of Nowakia sulcata, and rare goniatites, provide the age information for this Nandan Formation community."
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: mudstone
Lithology description: "brachiopods occur as very scattered, chiefly disarticulated, small specimens. The beds consist of dark-colored, thin-bedded (about 0.5 cm) mudstone."
Environment:marine indet.
Geology comments: "The Nowakia and goniatites are pelagic, and the trilobites may be epibenthic as these beds have not yielded trilobite trace fossils. We interpret these strata as BA 4-5, relatively quiet water, lower oxygen."
