Stratigraphy
Formation:Delorme
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Authors call it Delorme Group. I'm calling it Delorme Formation for consistency with related collections. Based on position in section and faunal content, this probably correlates with Fauna x of sections AV4 and AV5.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: dolomite
Secondary lithology: calcareous "shale"
Lithology description: For entire Whittaker/Road River/Delorme suite: "The sediments are predominantly carbonates with varying amounts of argillaceous material, ranging from fairly pure limestones, through argillaceous limestones and calcareous shales, to almost pure siliciclastic shales with some intervals containing minor to major amounts of chert." In stratigraphic column, this part of section is dolostone.
Environment:offshore shelf Tectonic setting:passive margin
Glacial or sequence phase:highstand systems tract
Geology comments: For entire Whittaker/Road River/Delorme suite: "The sediments were deposited in an area adjacent to the boundary between the Paleozoic continental shelf (Mackenzie shelf/platform) and the slope into the marginal Selwyn Basin."
SEP environmental call based primarily on PBDB ref. 7215. could be slope
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:replaced with silica
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection excludes:some macrofossils
Reason for describing collection:taxonomic analysis
Taxonomic list comments:Articulate brachiopods only.
