Stratigraphy
Formation: | Entrerriense
Stratigraphic resolution: | formation
Stratigraphy comments: Entrerriense Formation. This is tentatively placed in the early Late Miocene, as revealed by the presence of typical warm-water genera, with notable generica affinities to the Panamanian, Carribean, and Neozelandic bioprovinces, associated with paleoaustral and cosmopolitan genera. The formation may be correlated with the Parana Formation (Entre Rios), Camacho Formation (Uruguay), and those recorded from subsurface wells in Cuenca de Pelotas and Rio Grande (Brazil), and Laguna del Sauce and Chuy (Uruguay). The Miocene has been divided into Patagoniense, Entrerriense, and Riogrense, and alternatively the Gaiman (Patagoniense Fm), Puerto Madryn (Entrerriense, and Riogrense Fm's). |
