Stratigraphy
Geological group:Shimajiri Formation:Shinzato
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Shinzato member (now formation) spans calcareous nannoplankton zones CN12b just to the base of CN13, and planktonic foram zones PL5 and PL6 (UjiiƩ, 1994), indicating a Gelasian age.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:tuffaceous, gray poorly lithified silty, sandy claystone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: Consists for the most part of sandy or silty clays with minor partings of ash. Its color ranges from dark gray to light gray. Poorly lithified based on fossil preservation.
Environment:deep-water indet.
Geology comments: Molluscs found in assemblages of the Shinzato Tuff Member occur in depths as much as 300 m, although some can be in shallower water. Generally the assemblage should be regarded as deep-water.
