Stratigraphy
Geological group:Umpqua Formation:Bushnell Rock Member:Slater Creek
Local section:Freer Bridge
Regional section:Tyee
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: From Slater Creek Member of the Bushnell Rock Formation, Umpqua Group. This is equivalent to strata formely referred to as Bushnell Rock Member and Umpqua Formation and time equivalent to Lookingglass Formation. The Slater Creek Member unconformably overlies the Siletz RIver Volcanics and underlies the Tenmile Formation. Macrofossil biostratigraphy suggests an Early Paleocene-late Mid-Eocene age, but the member is more precisely dated as Penutian (C24n/CP10)=Ypresian.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:fine poorly lithified sandstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: Thick-bedded, fine-grained sandstone facies. Presumed to be at least poorly lithified given facies, local tectonics and thickness of overlying strata - but not stated in text.
Environment:transition zone/lower shoreface
Geology comments: Deposition in shallow water neritic conditions; 25-35 m.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:selective quarrying,field collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Collection method comments: Collected by L. Marincovich (1992). Collections presumably reposited at USGS Menlo Park or USNM.
Taxonomic list comments:Presumably identified by L. Marincovich
