Stratigraphy
Geological group:Umpqua Formation:White Tail Ridge Member:Berrry Creek
Local section:County Road 36
Regional section:Tyee
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Presumably from the Berry Creek Member of the White Tail Ridge Formation, Umpqua Group. This is equivalent to strata formely referred to as White Tail Member, Okalla Creek Member, and Umpqua Formation and time equivalent to Lookingglass and Flournoy Formation. The White Tail Ridge Formation unconformably overlies the Tenmile Formation and underlies the Camas Valley Member. Macrofossil biostratigraphy suggests an Early Eocene to late Middle Eocene age, but the member is more precisely dated as Ulatisian (C23n/r/CP11)=Ypresian.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:hummocky CS,bioturbation,fine,medium,pebbly,shelly/skeletal poorly lithified sandstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: Mollusk bearing, bioturbated and hummocky bedded fine- to medium-grained pebbly lithic arkosic sandstone. Presumed to be at least poorly lithified given facies, local tectonics and thickness of overlying strata - but not stated in text.
Environment:shoreface
Glacial or sequence phase:regressive
Geology comments: wave-dominated shoreline or deltaic environment; very shallow water, near shelf paleodepth.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:selective quarrying,field collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Collection method comments: Collected in 1992. Collections presumably reposited at USGS Menlo Park or USNM.
Taxonomic list comments:Presumably identified by L. Marincovich
