Stratigraphy
Formation:Tejon
Local section:Edmonston Pumping Plant
Regional section:Kern County
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: From upper Tejon Formation, and most likely from "Tejon" stage, or possibly the "Transition" stage. Therefore a upper Middle Eocene=Narizian=Bartonian age is assigned to the collection, although it is possibly as old as Lutetian. The Tejon Formation unconformably overlies basement, and is unconformably overlain by the Tecuya Formation (Oligocene) in this section. It is not specified which of three members this collection is from.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: lithified sandstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: While this collection is not specifically placed in measured section, all other collections are derived from marine sandstones. Appears to be mostly lithified from photos in publication. No detailed lithology or lithification comments mentioned in text.
Environment:coastal indet.
Glacial or sequence phase:transgressive
Geology comments: Collections from this section are generally typical of sandy level bottom communities, and somewhat greater depths than the inner sublittoral zone (low tide to around 90 m).
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:selective quarrying,field collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Museum repositories:USGS
Collection method comments: Collected by T.H. Nilson and W.O. Addicott. Collections likely to be reposited at USGS Menlo Park or USNM (not specified).
Taxonomic list comments:Identified by W.O. Addicott.
