Local section: | Bretache Point
Stratigraphic resolution: | bed
Stratigraphy comments: The principal, nominal sedimentary units of the mid-Tertiary succession of Carriacou are the Belmont Formation (lower Miocene), Kendeace Formation (lower Miocene), Carriacou Formation (middle Miocene) and Grand Bay Formation (middle Miocene). The collection originates from the Kendace Calcareous Silt Member of the Belmont Fm. Jung (1971) assigns an Early Miocene age. The age is determined relative (underlying) to the Grand Bay Formation, as the other units are small and poorly preserved. |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | poorly lithified calcareous siltstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: Calcareous siltstone. From specimens presented in photgraphic plates most material from Carriacou appears to be from poorly-lithified as opposed to cemented, or unconsolidated sediments. No information provided in text
Environment: | deep-water indet. |
Geology comments: Probably deposited in deep-water, approximately greater than 200, but no deeper than 800 m. |

Size of fossils: | macrofossils |
Preservation of anatomical detail: | good |

Taxonomic list comments:Exhaustive for Mollusca. Later publications may list non-molluscan taxa from these units. These are not available at this time. |
