Stratigraphy
Formation:Belmont
Local section:Belmont
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: The principal, nominal sedimentary units of the mid-Tertiary succession of Carriacou are the Belmont Formation (lower Miocene), Kendeace Formation (lower Miocene), Carriacou Formation (middle Miocene) and Grand Bay Formation (middle Miocene). The collection originates undifferentiated Belmont Formation, which forms the oldest part of the Carriacou Miocene succession.
Lithology and environment
Lithology description: No lithology specified. Could be either calcareous fine siliciclastic or limestone? From specimens presented in photgraphic plates most material from Carriacou appears to be from poorly-lithified as opposed to cemented, or unconsolidated sediments. No information provided in text
Environment:coastal indet.
Geology comments: Locally the water was probably shallow; no genera suggest deeper-water environments.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Preservation of anatomical detail:good
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:field collection, survey of museum collection
Reason for describing collection:taxonomic analysis
