Stratigraphy
Geological group:Santiago Formation:Angostura
Stratigraphic resolution:formation
Stratigraphy comments: Lowest of the Santiago Miocene section, lying transgressivlely unconformably on the Rio de Oro and Playa Rica shales. 150 meters in thickness
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:coarse lithified sandstone
Secondary lithology: conglomerate
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: The Angostura formation is comprised primarily of coarse wsandstones and beds of conglomerates, about 150 meters in thickness. The formation is resistant to erosion and is largely barren, but at a few places there are lenses or interbeds filled with finely preserved fossils.
Environment:shallow subtidal indet.
Geology comments: Near-shore clastic sediments deposited along the inner shelf zone at depths of 100 fathoms or less.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Reason for describing collection:general faunal/floral analysis
Collection method comments: Faunal list observed from the fossils found in a fossiliferous lense interbedded with sandstones and conglomerates.
