Stratigraphy
Formation:Bundera Calcarenite Member:Tantabiddi
Stratigraphic resolution:member
Stratigraphy comments: AGE: Late Pleistocene. Extended discussion of age in text (Kendrick et al., 1991). U-series dates obtained for the Tantabiddi Mbr have given ages of 111, 120, and 138 +/- 5-7 ka BP (van de Graaf et al. 1976). U-series dates from this study of coral aslo yield similar ages, from 108-141 +/- 5-10 ka BP.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:"cross stratification",medium,shelly/skeletal poorly lithified calcareous sandstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Cross-bedded, medium-textured, calcarenite, containing shell horizons and coral debris. LITHIFICATION: Presumed to be poorly-lithified given comments about moderate induration and calcretes in bounding units.
Environment:foreshore
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Accumulated on beach environment, bounded by eolian units.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body,original aragonite,original calcite
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:selective quarrying, survey of museum collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Collection method comments: COLLECTOR: Faunal list is a composite of decades of collecting effort, including that reported by Darragh and Kendrick (1971), Kendrick (1981), Ponder (1985), and Kendrick unpublished data. REPOSITORY: Collection assembled from material reposited in Western Australian Museum (WAM).
Taxonomic list comments:COMPLETENESS: Not exhaustive (stated to be selective, presumably on the basis of biogeographic utility of taxa), but certainly comprehensive. NOMENCLATURE: Not an authoritative publication, but nomenclature appears modern with extensive subgeneric and species-level assignments.
