Stratigraphy
Formation:Coquimbo
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Unit 15 was Sr dated at 1.4 Ma
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: lithified conglomerate
Secondary lithology: lithified calcareous conglomerate
Lithology description: conglomerate, calcareous conglomerate, wellcemented massive coquina, sandstone, siltstone, mudstone
Environment:shoreface
Geology comments: The coquina are interpreted as nearshore (upper shoreface) deposits because of their high fossil content. In the Tongoy paleobay, this facies represents shelly shoals and channels, but more distant from the river mouth than Units 8, 10 and 13.
