Stratigraphy
Geological group:San Lorenzo Formation:Pleito
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Pleito Fm of the San Lorenzo Group, which unconformably overlies the San Emigdio Fm (Late Eocene), and is unconformably overlain by the Pleito Fm (Early Oligocene) of the San Lorenzo Group. THICKNESS: From bed within unit of formation that reaches 600 ft in thicknes. AGE: Late Eocene on the basis of molluscan biostratigraphy. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From middle unit of the formation.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:shelly/skeletal,brown,gray,blue lithified conglomeratic sandstone
Secondary lithology:fine,shelly/skeletal lithified sandstone
Includes fossils?Y
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Massive dark brown and buff sandstones with fossiliferous layers and light bluish gray massive conglomerates towards base. LITHIFICATION: Presumably lithified on the basis of age.
Environment:coastal indet.
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Presumably shallow marine, siliciclastic assemblage.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:surface (in situ),field collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Museum repositories:UCMP
Collection method comments: COLLECTOR: Presumably C. M. Wagner and K. H. Schilling (1917). REPOSITORY: Univeristy of California Collections of Invertebrate Paleontology, presumably UCMP.
Taxonomic list comments:COVERAGE: Exhaustive for gastropoda, bivalvia, scaphopoda, and cirripedia. NOMENCLATURE: Antiquated nomenclature, but an authoritative publication with species-level assignments.
