Stratigraphic resolution: | group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: A complete section of the Bashi is exposed at this locality beginning at the lower contact with the Tuscahoma Sand. |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | glauconitic, gray, green unlithified calcareous sandstone |
Lithology description: The lower bed of the Bashi, greenish-gray marly glauconitic sand, contains abundant, excellently preserved pelecypods and gastropods. It is overlain by pale-olive very glauconitic calcareous sand containing a layer of Venericardia horatiana and Venericardia bashiplata at the bottom and small Odontogryphaea? sp.A shell above. Another fossiliferous calcareous glauconitic sand (Hatchetigbee) about 200 feet higher in the section is exposed 2.7 miles south of this locality on Alabama 69.
Environment: | shallow subtidal indet. |
