Stratigraphy
Regional section:Waimana Valley Regional bed:65 m
Regional order:bottom to top
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From unnamed lithostratigraphic unit, which unconformably overlies the Torlesse Supergroup. AGE: Korangan-Urutawan, on the basis of macrofossil biostratigraphy. Here placed in Korangan = Aptian based on its stratigraphic position. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From 60-70 m above base of formation.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:"cross stratification",coarse lithified sandstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Cross-bedded coarse sand. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, based on facies description.
Environment:coastal indet.
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Shallow marine, inner shelf paleoenvironment.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body,cast,mold/impression
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:surface (in situ),field collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Museum repositories:IGNS
Collectors:Gair et al Collection dates:1966
Collection method comments: COLLECTOR: H.S. Gair, Johnston, M.R., and Speden, I.G., 1966. REPOSITORY: GSNZ (now GNS Science, Lower Hutt, New Zealand).
Taxonomic list comments:COVERAGE: Exhaustive for bivalvia, and other invertebrate groups (cephalopoda, gastropoda, echinoidea, bryozoa, annelida listed). NOMENCLATURE: Not an authoritative publication, and generally lacking species-level designations. Identified by specialist (Speden), and lack of species names reflects poor preservation and insufficient existing taxonomic knowledge.
