Stratigraphy
Formation:Angostura
Stratigraphic resolution:formation
Stratigraphy comments: LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY: From the Angostura Fm, which overlies the Viche Formation, and is overlain by the lower Onzole Formation. AGE: The Angostura Formation is Late Miocene age (planktic foraminiferal zone N. 16). It is apparently the Ecuadorian equivalent of the Gatun Formation of Panama. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: The formation is largely barren, but in a few places there are lenses or interbeds filled with finely preserved fossils.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: unlithified "siliciclastic"
Lithology description: LITHOLOGY: Unknown, presumably siliciclastic lithology. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified, on the basis of figured specimens.
Environment:coastal indet.
