Stratigraphy
Formation:Dammam Member:Mazyad
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Lower part of the Mazyad Member. The marls and limestones of the lower part of this member yielded a rich fauna of planktonic and larger foraminifera and other faunas. The presence of Nummulites ptukhiani Kacharava, 1969, Silvestriella tetraedra (Gümbel, 1870) and Pellatispira madaraszi (Hantken, 1876) indicates a Priabonian Age (Boukhary et al. 2005). Based on planktonic foraminifera, the Globigerinatheka semiinvoluta Zone has been identified (its equivalent in nummulitic zonation is the Nummulites hottingeri Zone). This interval is also correlated with the shallow benthic zone SBZ 19 defined by Serra-Kiel et al. (1998).
