• Brightseat rest unconformably upon Cretaceous Severn Formation and is overlain unconformably by the Paleocene (Thanetian) Aquia Formation.

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; unlithified, bioturbated, fine, micaceous, gray, green, silty sandstone

• Sequence of alternating fining and coarsening, unconsolidated, dark gray to olive or greenish gray, poorly sorted, micaceous, clayey and silty, fine to very fine quartz sand. Coarse grains and granules of quartz are scattered throughout the unit and small quartz pebbles and phosphate grains and pebbles also occur.
