• Duntroonian local stage = Chattian stage (Late Oligocene). Named the "Pomahaka Estuarine Bed"....really a correlative unit of the Chatton Marine Formation.

Environment/lithology: marginal marine; unlithified, shelly/skeletal, brown, gray mudstone

• Contains fauna typical of brackish-water conditions.
• Brown and grey carbonaceous mudstone. Bright-blue when freshly exposed but weathers brown.
