Cubitostrea-Ferganea comm. - Bashibulake Fm, Mbr 4 (Oligocene of China)

Where: Xinjiang, China (41.0° N, 84.0° E: paleocoordinates 41.3° N, 79.8° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: 4 Member (Bashibulake Formation), Early/Lower Oligocene (33.9 - 28.4 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Member 4 of the Bashibulake Fm, which overlies the Wulagen Fm (upper Middle Eocene) and is overlain by the upper members of the Bashibulake Fm (Late Eocene-Early Oligocene). AGE: Early Oligocene. Justification not stated, but presumably through macrofossil and microfossil biostratigraphy. Pollen present. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From bed within Member 4, within the upper part of the formation.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; lithified sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Subtidal facies to the intertidal facies and finally to deltaic facies.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Sandstone, with large-scale cross-bedding. LITHIFICATION: Not stated, presumably poorly-lithified on the basis of facies.

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the NIGPAS

Collection methods: bulk,

• COLLECTOR: Not stated, but presumably X. Lan and J. M. Wei (1980's). REPOSITORY: Probably Nanjing Inst. of Geol. and Pal., Academia Sinica.
