Sokolowia-Kokanostrea comm. - Wulagen Fm (Eocene of China)

Where: Xinjiang, China (41.0° N, 84.0° E: paleocoordinates 41.0° N, 78.0° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Wulagen Formation, Bartonian (41.3 - 38.0 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Wulagen Fm, which overlies the Kalatar Fm (lower Middle Eocene) and is overlain by the Bashibulake Fm (Late Eocene-Early Oligocene). AGE: upper Middle Eocene. Justification not stated, but presumably through macrofossil and microfossil biostratigraphy. Pollen present. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From bed within upper part of the formation.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; lithified, tuffaceous limestone

• ENVIRONMENT: Subtidal shallow sea, normal salinity, in water temperature of ~32°.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Tuffaceous limestone. LITHIFICATION: Not stated, presumably lithified on the basis of facies.

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the NIGPAS

Collection methods: bulk,

• COLLECTOR: Not stated, but presumably X. Lan and J. M. Wei (1980's). REPOSITORY: Probably Nanjing Inst. of Geol. and Pal., Academia Sinica.
