• Miocene strata. Based primarily on the basis of foraminifera (listed). Macrofossils hint at a Pliocene age. Original age determinations such as Stockley (1928) were Pliocene.

Environment/lithology: marine; argillaceous sandstone and shelly/skeletal limestone

• A range of carbonate and siliciclastic environments are present on Zanzibar, including reefal and open marone.
• Clayey sands and subordinate limestones, marly sands and fossiliferous limestones.
