Stream on south side of Young Island (Devonian of Canada)

Where: Nunavut, Canada (74.3° N, 98.6° W: paleocoordinates 9.1° S, 22.8° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Polygnathus inversus conodont zone, Disappointment Bay Formation, Emsian (407.6 - 393.3 Ma)

• 7 m of strata exposed, with the ammonoid-bearing bed occurring 2 m above the base. Conodonts include Panderodus, Belodella, Pandorinella exigua exigua, Steptotaxis glenisteri, and a form of Polygnathus inversus transitional to P. serotinus (T. T. Uyeno, personal commun.), indicating placement in the upper part of the P. inversus Zone (Uyeno and Klapper, 1980; Klapper with Johnson, 1977; Klapper and Johnson, 1975). The Young Island beds are thus uppermost Zlichovian to lower Dalejan, or near the lower-upper Emsian boundary

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lithified, gray lime mudstone

• Dark gray, tentaculite-rich lime mudstone

Size class: macrofossils
