Sister taxon: Campylognathoides zitteli
Type specimen: GPIT 9533, a set of limb elements (Disarticulated limb bones). Its type locality is Wittberg, Metzingen, which is in a Toarcian marine shale in the Posidonia Shale Formation of Germany.
