Taxonomy
Helminthoidichnites spiralis was named by Walcott (1899). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Deep Creek Canyon, which is in a Calymmian marine horizon in the Greyson Formation of Montana.
It was recombined as Grypania spiralis by Walter et al. (1976).
