Arandaspis was named by Ritchie and Gilbert-Tomlinson (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 563]. Its type is Arandaspis prionotolepis.

It was assigned to Pteraspidomorphes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Arandaspididae by Ritchie and Gilbert-Tomlinson (1977), Young (2009) and Van Der Laan (2019).
