Taxonomy
Cladoselache was named by Dean (1894) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2,1066]. Its type is Cladodus fyleri.

It was assigned to Cladoselachida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cladoselachidae by Dean (1894), Hay (1902), Jordan (1963), Zangerl (1981), Thurmond and Jones (1981), Williams (2001) and Ginter et al. (2010).

B. Dean 1894Body bluntly fusiform. Teeth cladodont, p. 106. Shagreen varying in body regions. In pectoral delicate (dermal) rays between radialia, radialia in character as described p. 92. Tail, with basal supports arranged as shown p. 98, exhibiting fine (dermal) ray structure in place of hypurals of upper lobe.
