It was corrected as Diatrymatidae by Hay (1930) and Livezey and Zusi (2007).

It was assigned to Diatrymae by Matthew and Granger (1917); to Diatrymatiformes by Hay (1930); and to Diatrymiformes by Lambrecht (1933), Wetmore (1940), Wetmore (1960), Carroll (1988) and Livezey and Zusi (2007).
