Also known as Cynognathus holotype; Lady Frere area
Where: Eastern Cape, South Africa (31.7° S, 27.2° E: paleocoordinates 67.9° S, 13.8° W)
• coordinate based on nearby landmark
• local area-level geographic resolution
When: Cynognathus subzone B other zone, Burgersdorp Formation (Beaufort Group), Anisian (247.2 - 242.0 Ma)
• Original description did not provide details of the stratigraphic horizon; however, recent work has demonstrated that Cynognathus is the diagnostic fossil of the Cynognathus Assemblage Zone (Olenekian-Anisian), which is divided into three subzones (e.g. Abdala et al. 2005. JVP 25). Bolotridon is known only from subzone B (Abdala & Ribeiro 2010: PPP 286: 202), as are Cynognathus crateronotus and Diademodon tetragonus so this site likely is of subzone B, early Anisian age.
• member-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: terrestrial; concretionary, red lithology not reported
