Borehole I-MU-I-MA, Sample 11 (Cretaceous to of Brazil)

Also known as Mandacaru borehole

Where: Maranhao, Brazil (2.6° S, 42.8° W: paleocoordinates 9.7° S, 17.1° W)

• coordinate stated in text

When: Zone II, Reyrea polymorphus pollen zone, Late/Upper Albian to Late/Upper Albian (105.3 - 93.5 Ma)

• The interpretation of the Schlumberger logs by

•PETROBRAS is apparently of a provisional character

•and shows many questional formation and member

•subdivisions. For these reasons these lithologic units

•are not used in order to avoid confusion with

•those established and published by PAMPLONA (1971).

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; lithified, argillaceous shale and lithified, argillaceous sandstone

• The lithology of the lower ca. 825 metres consists mainly of shales alternating with some sandstones.

Size class: microfossils

Preservation: soft parts, original sporopollenin

Collection methods: chemical, hydrochloric, hydroflouric, sieve
