• In the upper 2 m of the unit. Said to be late Pliocene (but before reassignment of Gelasian to the Pleistocene). Said to have foraminifera from zone MPL 5. Clayey sands and bioclastic calcarenites at the base. Di Stefano et al. (2007) discuss sections in the Rometta area, describing three unconformity-bound packages R1 Piacenzian, R2 latest Gelasian-Calabrian, and R3 late Calabrian-early Ionian). The description of the section agrees most with the R2 unit (containing slumps)
