Ingarano cave, layer D (Pleistocene of Italy)

Where: Italy (41.8° N, 15.4° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Late/Upper Pleistocene (0.1 - 0.0 Ma)

• Conglomerate two to four meters thick, overlying a discontinuity surface. Age bracketed by U/Th date of 40 ka from layer B and Mousterian artifacts (no younger than 35 ka) in layer E.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: sinkhole; conglomerate

• Karst filling succession within the Jurassic-Cretaceous limestone of the "Calcare di Sannicandro" Formation, probably representing the infilling of a sinkhole, the structure of which is no longer visible now that quarry activities have exposed the entire succession.
• Conglomerate with angular clasts, some larger than 10 cm, and a prevalently calcareous matrix

Size class: macrofossils
