Agudo, Sacisaurus site (Triassic of Brazil)

Where: Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (29.6° S, 53.2° W: paleocoordinates 37.1° S, 15.5° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Riograndia other zone, Caturrita Formation (Rosário do Sul Group), Norian (228.0 - 208.5 Ma)

• upper layers of the Santa Maria 2 Sequence of the Santa Maria Supersequence, corresponding lithostratigraphically to the Caturrita Formation. Ictidosauria or Mammaliamorpha Assemblage Zone (= Jachaleria Interval); Riograndia Assemblage Zone, upper strata of the Candelária sequence

•Caturrita was originally considered Carnian-Norian in age; however, recent recalibration of the Triassic timescale suggests a Norian age (e.g. Langer et al. 2010; Brusatte et al. 2010. Earth-Science Reviews 101:68-100)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; fine-grained, pebbly, intraclastic, argillaceous sandstone

• "fine grained bioclastic sandstones full of mudstone pebbles"

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collection methods: quarrying, mechanical,
