Headwaters of Kandik River - Kingak Shale (Jurassic of Canada)

Where: Yukon, Canada (65.8° N, 140.4° W: paleocoordinates 64.3° N, 69.7° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Kingak Shale Formation, Oxfordian (163.5 - 157.3 Ma)

• Collection a composite from the "Kingak Shale" unit of the Kandik River headwaters section. This succession is assigned a Oxfordian age based on macrofossil biostratigraphy (Buchia (Anaucella) concentrica biozone of Jeletzky, 1967), although could potentially fall within the Kimmeridgian-Callovian.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep-water; shale and siltstone

• Mainly outer neritic and upper bathyal.
• Mainly shale and siltstone.

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the GSC

Collection methods: quarrying,

• Collection is a composite derived from Fig. 2 of Jeletzky (1978), and amalgamated from occurrences of individual taxa on composite columns for individual lithostratigraphic units. Collections presumably are reposited in the Geological Survey of Canada collections.
