Novospasskoye village (PIN collection 1809) (Jurassic of Russian Federation)

Where: Buryat, Russian Federation (51.3° N, 108.1° E: paleocoordinates 55.8° N, 108.8° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Ichetuy Formation, Oxfordian (163.5 - 157.3 Ma)

• Formation also translated Ichetyua. Insect workers often assign a late Early Jurassic-early Middle Jurassic (or Toarcian-Aalenian) age but radiometric dating of Ichituy Fm volcanics gives ages of 159-156 Ma.

Environment/lithology: lacustrine - small; lithified siliciclastic sediments

• Novospasskoe was a typical Mesozoic lake of type "A" according to Sinitshenkova and Zherikhin (1996), a deep mountain lake formed when a river valley was naturally dammed. It was a cold oligotrophic water body with low primary production and ample oxygen.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: mold/impression
