Wollongong, South Coast (AM coll) (Permian of Australia)

Where: New South Wales, Australia (34.4° S, 150.9° E: paleocoordinates 69.8° S, 159.3° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Gerringong Formation, Wordian (266.9 - 264.3 Ma)

• Formerly Gerringong Volcanics. A sample 2 m below the top of the formation yielded a radiometric date of 263.51 Ma, within the basal Capitanian (Metcalf et al., 2015), but nearly all fossils come from the basal Westley Park Sandstone or Kiama Sandstone members. Therefore, a Wordian age is assigned.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; lithified, volcaniclastic siliciclastic sediments

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: mold/impression

Collection methods: Repository: Australian Museum, Sydney
