Thorhill Creek (Cretaceous of Canada)

Where: Manitoba, Canada (49.2° N, 98.1° W: paleocoordinates 51.4° N, 59.7° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Smoky Hill Chalk Member (Niobrara Formation), Santonian (86.3 - 83.6 Ma)

• "We were unable to determine the exact stratigraphic level of the ROM specimen within the formation; however, the chalky matrix and the geographical location, as well as the preservation of the bones, suggests that the specimen is likely from the Chalky Member, which is the upper half of the formation. The estimated age for the ROM specimen, based on this assumption, is Santonian to the earliest Campanian (McNeil and Caldwell, 1981)."

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; gray mudstone

• "The little remaining matrix still adhering to the specimen is a chalky mudstone and ivory to grey in color."

Size class: macrofossils

Collected in 1974; reposited in the ROM
