Chernovskie Kopi; Outcrop 9 bed 1 (PIN collection 4626) (Cretaceous of Russian Federation)

Where: Chita, Russian Federation (52.0° N, 113.2° E: paleocoordinates 55.2° N, 111.5° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Doronino Formation (Chernovskaya Group), Barremian (129.4 - 125.0 Ma)

• Fish fauna is very similar to Aptian Turga and Semen localities, but Chernovskie Kopi is considered to be slightly older by paleoentomologists, so a Barremian age is assigned. Latest Jurassic or Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary ages in the literature are most likely incorrect.

Environment/lithology: lacustrine; lithified, fine-grained, argillaceous claystone

• ""The insects are represented by prints on fine-grained burnt argillites. The insect-containing sediments in Chernovskie Kopi are brick-red in color owing to high temperatures accompanying the intrusion of igneous rock into the sedimentary suite of underlying layers." (Sukatsheva & Vassilenko, 2011)

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: mold/impression

Collected by S.M. Sinitsa in 1993-1995; reposited in the PIN

Collection methods: quarrying,
