• The Narbonne Basin was formed within an irregular depression located on the Eastern Corbières thrust sheet. During late Oligocene and early Miocene (Aquitanian) times, this piggyback basin was filled with non-marine sediments including lacustrine and palustrine carbonates, evaporites (gypsum), alluvial fine-grained siliciclastics, and fanglomerates.
