Madygen, PIN collection 2944, Dzhailoucho area (Triassic of Kyrgyzstan)

Where: Osh, Kyrgyzstan (40.1° N, 70.2° E: paleocoordinates 36.5° N, 60.1° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Madygen Formation, Ladinian (242.0 - 237.0 Ma)

• Aristov (2020): The age of the Madygen locality is usually reported as the Ladinian or Carnian of the Middle or Upper Triassic (Shcherbakov, 2008). This concept emerged, because I.A. Dobruskina (1995) did not discriminate between Ladinian and Carnian floras. Our data show that only three of the six families found at Madygen are known from younger sediments (Fig. 1), and therefore we can confirm the assumption of the Ladinian age of the Madygen locality (A.G. Ponomarenko, personal communication, 2018).

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lacustrine - small; lithified siliciclastic sediments

• Oxbow lake. Madygen basin; tectonically-induced intermontane basin. Complex facies pattern consistent with active tectonics in upland region.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: mold/impression
